The Faith That Holds On

Like Elijah’s prayer, hope starts with a single glimpse and persists until the downpour comes.

“But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope of which we boast.” — Hebrews 3:6 BSB

Elijah didn’t just believe that the rain would come—he leaned into it. First, he declared the promise before a cloud was in sight. Then, with his face between his knees on the mountaintop, he persisted in prayer. This devotional by AB Simpson calls us to see that simple trust isn’t the whole story—true faith moves us beyond initial confidence into a tenacious clinging to Christ until His promise becomes our reality. The picture of Joash is fitting: one arrow shot in hope, then repeated strikes in endurance. We often stop short—trusting once, but not abiding. Yet the house of God is built not just on initial faith, but enduring faith. We hold fast not because we are strong, but because we are held by the One who overcame.

Holy Spirit Journal
My child, I am your Confidence and your Hope. I do not waver, so neither will you as you remain in Me.
You are My house—where I dwell, where My life is expressed. Not a place of brick or stone, but a soul yielded, a heart resting, a will surrendered. I am not asking you to manufacture perseverance; I am your perseverance. I am your unfailing trust.

When the skies show no sign of rain, let Me speak through you with certainty. When the sixth time brings no answer, yield again and I will be your strength on the seventh. What you believed in the light of My Word, I will bring forth in the fullness of time. You do not need to make it happen—you only need to trust Me moment by moment as I work all things together in you and through you.

So hold to Me—not to an outcome, not to a process, but to Me. My faithfulness is your anchor. I am the Son over this house, and you are mine. (Hebrews 3:6; 1 Kings 18:41–45; Luke 21:19)

Prayer
Father, thank You for making me part of Your house—a place where Your Son reigns faithfully and forever. I trust You not only for the promise, but for the process. I rest in the truth that You are both the Author and the Finisher of my faith. Jesus, You are my Confidence and my Perseverance. So I boast in the hope You have already given, and I trust You to carry it to completion in me.
