His Hunger
When God stirs the hunger, He also prepares the feast.
Today’s reflection from Abide Above draws us into a sacred truth that resonates deeply with our journey of grace: hunger for God is not self-originated—it is a divine gift. The devotional traces this hunger through every stage of our walk: from justification, to sanctification, to service. It is not born out of obligation or fear, but drawn forth by love.
Quoting Psalm 107, the writer highlights a recurring theme: God satisfies the longing soul and fills it with goodness. This longing itself is not something we muster up through self-effort or spiritual performance—it is stirred by the Spirit within.
When we sense a desire for deeper fellowship, a yearning to know Christ more intimately, or even a burden to serve with a heart full of grace, these are not signs of spiritual ambition. They are invitations—signals of divine love at work. As the devotional writer reminds us, without this divine stirring, we’d settle for spiritual crumbs. But God wants us full—feasting on the Living Bread.
The devotional also acknowledges the mystery of God’s inner workings. Much of His drawing is unseen and unrecognized until it bears fruit. His goodness gently urges us forward. And when we finally hunger for more, we’re not achieving something—we’re receiving a gift we were prepared for all along.
Personal Journal Entry – In the Holy Spirit’s Voice Through Scripture
I am the One who drew your heart to the Father, for no one comes unless the Father who sent Me draws them. Before you knew Me, I placed eternity in your heart and began to stir a longing that only I could satisfy. I called you to Myself, not with pressure or shame, but with cords of kindness and bands of love.
When you first hungered to be made right with God, it was I who opened your eyes to see the beauty of the cross. And when your heart began to ache for freedom from the weight of sin’s patterns, it was I who breathed that holy discontent.
You thought you initiated the longing, but I was always ahead of you—working in you both to will and to do of My good pleasure. I shaped your hunger to align with heaven’s feast. The more you dwell in Me, the more I awaken your desire to know Me deeply, to share in My sufferings and resurrection power—not as a duty, but as delight.
There are times you wonder why others don’t seem to hunger like you do. But remember, just as I drew you, so I draw them. I am patient. I am near. And I will not cease My work in their hearts.
Let your sharing be like Mine—gentle, inviting, and full of grace. I do not push or demand. I woo. I whisper. I awaken.
You were never meant to generate desire through striving. You were made to receive hunger as a gift and to be filled with My goodness. Stay close to Me, the Living Bread. I will satisfy your soul and overflow through you to others.

Prayer of Confidence
Father, I praise You for the hunger You’ve placed in me. It is not mine to manufacture—it is Yours to stir and satisfy. Thank You for awakening me to the beauty of Jesus and for placing in me a holy longing that the world could never produce. I rejoice that this hunger is a sign of life, a gift of grace, a drawing into deeper fellowship.
I trust that every desire for more of You is met with the fullness of Your provision. You are not stingy with Yourself. You fill the hungry soul with goodness—not scraps, but abundance. May I rest in this truth and share it gently with others, never striving, never pushing, but trusting that You are drawing hearts as You once drew mine.
