Continuous Cross: Living in the Reality of Christ’s Victory

📖 “For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake.” —2 Corinthians 4:11

The cross is not just the gateway to salvation; it is the means by which we experience Christ’s life daily. God’s way is not to improve the old but to remove it entirely. He does not reform the flesh—He crucifies it (Rom. 6:6). The Christian life is not a process of making the old self better, but of yielding to the life of Christ, who alone is our source of righteousness and victory.

Think of an outdated operating system on a computer. No matter how many updates are attempted, it remains slow, vulnerable, and incapable of running new software. The only solution is to replace it with an entirely new system. The cross did not provide an update to our old self—it erased it and installed Christ’s life in its place. Our role is to stop trying to operate under the old system and instead trust the new life within us.

As we daily reckon ourselves dead to sin and alive to God (Rom. 6:11), the Holy Spirit works the reality of Christ’s victory into our experience. Every situation we face is an opportunity to trust that we are not our own source of strength, wisdom, or righteousness—Christ is.

Reflection Questions

  • Are there areas in your life where you are still trying to “update” the old self rather than reckoning it dead?

  • How does embracing Christ’s life within change the way you respond to struggles?

  • What does it look like for Christ’s life to be manifested in your daily walk?

Prayer of Confidence

Father, I rejoice that my old self was not improved, but crucified. The life I now live is Christ in me, and I trust You to manifest His life through me today. Thank You that I do not have to strive to fix what You have already put to death. I rest in the new creation You have made me to be, knowing that Christ is fully sufficient in every moment. Amen.
