Heeding God in the Darkness
📖 “What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.”— Matthew 10:27
Listening in the Shadows
There are seasons when God seems to draw a curtain over our understanding. The natural impulse in these times is to search frantically for answers—turning to others, scouring books, or voicing our confusion. But Oswald Chambers reminds us that the discipline of darkness is not about grasping for explanations but about learning to listen.
God speaks in the stillness, and if we rush to fill the silence with noise, we will miss what He intends for us. Like the moon in the night sky, which does not shine by its own power but simply reflects the sun’s light, our role in the darkness is to be still and receive. Only then, when the dawn comes, will we have something worth sharing—truth that has been wrought in the quiet trust of our hearts.
A Lesson in Stillness
There is wisdom in waiting, even when we don’t understand. The temptation is to demand clarity immediately, but often, God’s voice is recognized only in hindsight. When we emerge from the shadows, we look back and marvel at how He was speaking all along, even when we didn’t realize it. The delay in our understanding is not wasted; it softens our hearts and makes us more attuned to His voice in the future.
So when God places you in a season of quiet, do not resist it. Do not strive to explain it away. Simply rest, heed, and trust. In time, He will bring you into the light—and the message formed in the silence will be one worth proclaiming.
Prayer of Confidence
Father, I rejoice in Your wisdom, knowing that even in the silence, You are speaking. Thank You for every moment You set apart for me to listen, for every shadow that draws me closer to Your voice. I embrace the discipline of waiting, trusting that when You choose to bring me into the light, I will carry with me the truth You have impressed upon my heart. May my life reflect the stillness of one who hears and the boldness of one who proclaims. Amen.
