The True King Reigns
2 Chronicles 23
For six long years, Judah groaned under the rule of Athaliah, a usurper who had seized the throne and sought to destroy the royal line of David. Darkness covered the land, but God had not forgotten His promise. In secret, young Joash, the rightful king, was hidden away, awaiting the day of his coronation. When the time was right, the priest Jehoiada boldly acted. With the Levites and leaders of Judah rallying together, they removed the false ruler and enthroned the true king.
This moment in Judah’s history is not just a political victory—it is a glimpse of a far greater reality. Just as Joash was hidden while an impostor ruled, so too was Christ’s kingship hidden for a time as the world lay under the dominion of sin and death. But God’s purposes are never thwarted. Jesus, the true King from David’s line, was anointed in suffering, crowned in resurrection glory, and now reigns forever. His rule is not temporary like Joash’s, nor will He ever be displaced. One day, all of His people will gather around His throne, rejoicing in His perfect, righteous reign (Rev. 7:13–17).
It is easy to look around and see the influence of false rulers—powers of darkness, deception, and rebellion against God. But just as surely as Joash was revealed at the appointed time, so too will Christ’s absolute kingship be made manifest to all. No throne is truly secure apart from His. No power can endure against Him. No force can overturn what He has already accomplished. He is our reigning King today, and He will be the reigning King forever.
Reflection on Key Truths:
God’s sovereignty is never threatened—even when evil seems to be in control.
Jesus is the true and eternal King—His reign is established, and nothing can remove Him.
God’s people will one day gather around His throne—with unceasing joy and unshakable peace.
Application:
When you see injustice or wickedness prevail, remember that Christ is already enthroned. His rule is not coming—it is here, and it will be fully revealed in His perfect timing.
Do not be discouraged when the world seems to be ruled by impostors. The usurper's time is limited. The King’s reign is forever.
Live in the reality of Christ’s kingship today, submitting every worry, every decision, and every step to His reign in your life.
Prayer:
Father, we stand in the certainty that Jesus reigns, now and forever. Though the world may seem to be in turmoil, we do not waver, for our King is enthroned in righteousness. We walk in the confidence of His victory, knowing that no power can remove Him from His rightful place. Thank You for the unshakable truth that His kingdom is not of this world, and yet, we already belong to it. Our hearts rejoice in the day when we will stand before Him, gathered in endless joy. Until then, we live under His rule, secure in His unfailing love. Amen.
Final Thought:
The world may seem to be in the hands of false rulers, but Christ’s throne is unshakable. The day is coming when every eye will see and every knee will bow—His reign is not only coming, it is already here.
