🕊️ The Didache – Chapter 13: Support of Prophets

“The true prophet is worthy of support, for they are your high priests.”

Chapter 13 provides instructions on giving material support to those who serve in spiritual roles—especially prophets and teachers who dwell among the community. These servants are likened to high priests, and the first-fruits of labor and harvest are to be given to them. If no prophet is present, the offerings are to be given to the poor. The principle is clear: those who minister in spiritual things are to be cared for materially, just as Jesus affirmed. Yet the giving is not legalistic—it’s described as flowing from what “seems good to you,” reminding us that generosity is a response to grace, not pressure.

Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture

Everything you have is from Me. The fruit of your labor, the harvest of your efforts, the provision you enjoy—it’s all from My hand. And I’ve entrusted it to you so that you might share in the joy of giving, just as I gave to you.

Support those who serve among you—not out of obligation, but out of overflow. When you give to those who minister in My name, you are not just meeting their needs—you are honoring Me. Let your first-fruits be an act of worship, not duty.

And if no prophet stands among you, then give to those who are in need. I see every gift, every offering, every act of generosity done in My name. I am the Giver, and I am the Rewarder. Give freely, not because you must, but because you already have all things in Christ.

(1 Corinthians 9:13–14, Galatians 6:6, Proverbs 3:9–10, Luke 6:38)

Prayer of Trust and Confidence

Lord, thank You that You have richly provided all I need—both physically and spiritually. I rejoice in the privilege of giving to those who serve You, not as a burden, but as a joyful response to Your grace. I trust You to direct my giving, to show me where to sow, and to keep my heart free from fear or reluctance. You are my source, and I lack nothing in You. Let every offering be an act of love. Amen.
