True Freedom: Living the Life We Were Meant to Live
Inspired by Ray Stedman’s “Immeasurably More”
"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
— John 8:32
Freedom is a word that resonates deeply within all of us. We long to live unburdened, to experience life as it was meant to be. Jesus, speaking to those who believed Him, offers a roadmap to true freedom: belief, continuing in His Word, knowing the truth, and being set free.
Imagine your life as a tightly coiled spring. When wound with fear, guilt, anger, or pride, the spring loses its ability to expand and function as it was designed. But Jesus promises that His truth releases the tension, uncoils the spring, and allows you to operate as you were meant to—free, unburdened, and fully alive.
The Path to Freedom
Belief: Jesus begins with belief. This is not mere intellectual agreement but the starting point, the doorway to discipleship. It’s where we begin to take Him at His Word and consider His truth.
Continuing in His Word: As we listen to Jesus, read His Word, and reflect deeply, we start to see life through His eyes. His truth reveals the illusions we’ve been clinging to—illusions of self-sufficiency, control, or worldly priorities. It’s not about a surface-level glance but a continued abiding in His Word.
Knowing the Truth: Through this abiding, we come to know the truth—not just intellectually but experientially. Jesus opens our eyes to reality, to life as it truly is, as God designed it to be. This truth cuts through the illusions and facades, showing us what truly matters.
Freedom: And with this truth comes freedom. Freedom from fear, which no longer binds us. Freedom from guilt, which no longer defines us. Freedom from anger, pride, and the hang-ups that keep us from living fully. This isn’t a fleeting emotional release but a deep, transformative liberation found in Christ.
Living the Freedom
True freedom isn’t about escaping responsibilities or living life on our own terms. It’s about being freed from the things that enslave us so we can live as God intended, in communion with Him and others. It’s the freedom to love, to forgive, to trust, and to walk with God without the chains of fear or shame holding us back.
Jesus offers this freedom to everyone who will believe and abide in His Word. Like the spring uncoiled, life begins to move as it was designed—filled with peace, purpose, and the joy of living in step with our Creator.
A Prayer of Confidence in His Freedom
Father,
Thank You for the freedom we have in Christ. You have already set us free from fear, guilt, and pride, and You have made us alive to the truth that liberates us. We trust in Your Word and the work You have done in us through Jesus. We rejoice in knowing that we are no longer bound by the hang-ups that once defined us. Your truth has uncoiled the springs of our hearts, and we rest in the life You’ve given us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Final Thought
Jesus doesn’t just promise freedom—He is the freedom we long for. As we continue in His Word, we discover that life’s tensions and burdens don’t have to hold us back. He has already provided the way to live fully, uncoiled and free, in His love and truth.
