Freely Given, Freely Shared
Inspired by insights from A.B. Simpson's "Days of Heaven on Earth"
"Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give."
— Matthew 10:8 (BSB)
Picture a farmer who has been blessed with an abundant harvest. His fields overflow with golden grain, far more than he or his family could ever consume. To hoard it all for himself would not only be selfish but wasteful. Instead, he shares his bounty with neighbors in need, knowing that the blessings he’s received were never meant to stop with him.
In the same way, when God pours His grace, healing, or sanctification into our lives, it is not meant to be kept hidden or reserved for ourselves alone. It is a trust—a divine abundance entrusted to us for the benefit of others. When we’ve experienced His work in our lives, whether it’s healing, freedom, or a deeper knowledge of His return, we become stewards of that truth.
God’s blessings are not stagnant—they are rivers, not reservoirs. Just as rivers flow to nourish the land around them, so we are called to share what God has so freely given us. When He heals, He positions us to bring His healing truth to those who are suffering. When He sanctifies, He uses us as living testimonies to encourage others in their journey of faith.
To hold onto these treasures without sharing them would be to misunderstand their purpose. The blessings we’ve received are invitations to participate in God’s work in the lives of others.
A Prayer of Trust and Gratitude
Father,
Thank You for the abundant blessings You have poured into our lives—blessings of grace, healing, and truth. We trust in Your infinite wisdom, knowing that every good gift from You is meant to flow through us to those around us. May we always recognize that what we’ve freely received is to be freely shared, not hoarded. Lead us to those who need the truth You’ve entrusted to us, and give us confidence in Your Spirit to share it in love. In Christ, we rest in Your complete provision. Amen.
Final Thought
Your life is a testimony of God’s goodness, a field of abundant grain ready to feed those in need. The next time you encounter someone in need of hope, healing, or encouragement, remember: you’ve been given all you need to share the abundance of Christ with them. Freely you have received—now freely give.
