Sowing to the Spirit

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”
(Galatians 6:7-8)

Life presents us with a daily choice: to sow to the flesh or to sow to the Spirit. Every word, thought, and action is like planting a seed, and in time, the harvest will come. Just as a farmer does not expect wheat after planting thorns, neither can we expect a flourishing spiritual life if we invest in self-sufficiency and self-will.

Sowing to the flesh leads to corruption—a gradual decay of spiritual vitality. For the unbeliever, this corruption is eternal separation from God. For the believer, it results in fruitlessness, unnecessary burdens, and missed opportunities to experience the abundant life Christ offers. The more one leans on their own strength, the more they reap weariness and frustration.

But sowing to the Spirit is an entirely different harvest. When we yield to the indwelling life of Christ, trusting Him to express His love, wisdom, and power through us, we reap the fullness of everlasting life. This is not merely a future promise but a present reality—an overflowing life marked by joy, peace, and fruitfulness. As Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

Imagine two wells. One is deep and filled with fresh, flowing water. The other is stagnant, poisoned by self-effort. The well we choose to draw from determines the refreshment or dryness of our souls. By trusting Christ within, we continually drink from the well of life, allowing His Spirit to shape our thoughts, guide our steps, and produce His harvest in us.

A Prayer of Confidence

Father, You have given me everything I need in Christ. You have placed Your Spirit within me, offering the fullness of life as I trust and yield to You. I reject the empty toil of the flesh and embrace the life You have already provided. Thank You for the certainty of Your promises—that as I sow to the Spirit, I will reap the abundance of Christ’s life in me. Today, I rest in Your sufficiency and walk in the confidence that You are working through me. Amen.
