Growing in Knowing the Lord

"Like unfolding pages in the light of dawn, knowing Him is a journey, not a destination."

Scripture: Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. (2 Peter 3:18)

At the heart of the new covenant is not a rulebook but a relationship. Bob Hoekstra reminds us that grace does more than bring us into God’s family—it deepens our fellowship with Him day by day. The very essence of growth under grace is knowing the Lord more intimately, not just knowing about Him. Paul echoed this desire when he prayed that believers would walk in a way that pleased the Lord by growing in the knowledge of God (Colossians 1:10).

This growth isn't about accumulation of facts but about delighting in the One who authored the Scriptures. As infants crave milk, we are to long for the Word—not as duty but as communion, because it reveals Christ on every page. Through that Word, we grow in grace, not self-effort.

Grace and knowledge go hand in hand. The more we behold Christ in the Word, the more we are conformed to His image, and the more we understand the beauty of the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness. Knowing God, not hoarding wisdom, might, or riches, is our great pursuit (Jeremiah 9:23-24). As Hosea invites us: Let us know, let us pursue the knowing of the Lord.

I draw you near not to burden you with more to accomplish, but to unveil the One who has already finished all that matters. I have placed within you a hunger for the Word, not as a checklist but as a conversation between us—where I show you Christ, line by line, grace upon grace.

From the beginning, I’ve called you to grow—not like a machine processing data, but like a traveler discovering beauty with every step. The Word is not distant; it is alive because Christ lives in you. Every time your eyes read, your spirit hears, and I whisper again who you are in Him.

You are not chasing Me; I am walking with you. You are not earning Me; you are learning Me. When you open the Scriptures, it is My delight to reveal the One who is grace and truth. From Moses to the prophets, from psalms to parables, I am pointing you to the Son who lives in you and through you. I renew your mind so that you may recognize Him not only in print, but in presence.

The world around you may shout for recognition, riches, or reputation, but I quietly draw your gaze to the One who is gentle and lowly, seated yet sovereign. Let the pursuit of knowing Him be your joy, for in knowing Him, you will find all you truly seek.

I have set your feet on the path of life, and I lead you into all truth. Rejoice, for to know the Lord is your highest treasure, and in that knowing, you are already being changed.

Prayer of Trust and Confidence
Father, thank You that this walk with You is not a syllabus but a relationship—one I never earned and never need to maintain by my effort. You’ve drawn me into the very heart of Christ, where grace overflows and knowledge becomes communion. I rest today in the joy of knowing that You are revealing more of Yourself—not to the qualified or the flawless—but to those who simply come. So here I am, delighting in You, letting Your Word show me again the One who lives in me and through me. I receive this day as another step in knowing You more, by Your grace alone.
