A Prayer for a Dear Friend’s Daughter
Father, You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit. You are the God who heals, who binds up wounds, and who restores the years the locusts have eaten. Nothing is beyond Your reach, and Your arm is not too short to save. You sent Your Son to set the captives free, to open the prison to those who are bound. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
Lord, we entrust my friend’s daughter into Your hands, for You know her by name. You formed her in the womb, and Your thoughts toward her are more than the sands of the sea. You desire that she walk in the light as You are in the light, that she know the fullness of joy in Your presence. Draw her with cords of lovingkindness, for it is Your kindness that leads to repentance. Break every chain that binds her, and let her hear Your voice calling her into life.
Even now, as she lies in the hospital, You are with her. There is no place she can go where Your presence does not surround her. If she makes her bed in the depths, You are there; if she takes the wings of the morning and dwells in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand will lead her, and Your right hand will hold her fast. Awaken her heart to know the depth of Your love, the power of Your grace, and the hope found only in Christ.
Lord, we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the powers of darkness that seek to steal, kill, and destroy. But You have come that we may have life and have it abundantly. In the name of Jesus, we stand against every lie of the enemy, every stronghold that seeks to keep her in bondage. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Bring beauty from ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
Thank You, Father, that Your word does not return void. Your mercies are new every morning. We entrust my friend’s daughter to You, believing that You will complete the work You have begun. You are able to do exceedingly, abundantly beyond all that we ask or think. Let her taste and see that You are good. Let her wake from this night knowing that You are her refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. In You alone is life, and life eternal.
Amen.
