Leaning into the Life of Christ
“Rest comes not from knowing every step ahead, but from knowing Who walks within.”
Rest in God alone, O my soul, for my hope comes from Him. — Psalm 62:5 (BSB)

A.B. Simpson’s devotional urges us to stop approaching God as though we’re still waiting for Him to act. Instead, we’re to live as if He already has—because in Christ, He has. Simpson draws a parallel between a bride stepping into her new identity the moment vows are spoken, and the believer who steps into the fullness of Christ’s roles the moment they receive Him.
This aligns beautifully with the Exchanged Life truth that Jesus is not just our Savior, but our everything. He is our Lamb—who took our place. He is our Lord—who now reigns in our hearts. He is our very Life—who lives in us and through us. He is our Liberator—who has set us free from sin’s dominion. And He is our Leader—guiding us moment by moment through the indwelling Holy Spirit.
Living by faith is living in light of that exchanged life. No longer begging for what we think we lack, we rest in the One who is all. The Christian life isn't a path of trying harder, but of trusting deeper. And in that trust, there is quiet rest, because the burden is no longer ours.

My child, rest in Me. I am your Lamb, the One who was slain so that you may be made righteous—not by works, but by grace. You are clean because of the word I have spoken to you. There is no condemnation for you, for you are in Me.
I am your Lord. You are no longer your own; you were bought with a price. I live in you, and your life now belongs to Me—not as a tyrant, but as the One who gave everything for you. My rule in your life is peace. Let the peace of Christ rule in your heart.
I am your Life. It is no longer you who live, but I who live in you. The life you now live in the body, you live by faith in Me—the One who loved you and gave Myself for you. I am your source, your center, your very breath.
I am your Liberator. Sin is no longer your master, because you are under grace. The law of the Spirit of life in Me has set you free from the law of sin and death. You have been raised with Me and made alive to God. Live in that freedom. Do not look back.
And I am your Leader. I guide you with My eye upon you. My Spirit leads you into all truth and brings to your mind all I have said. Walk in step with Me. As you trust Me, I will make your path straight—not always easy, but never alone.
Rest, beloved. All you need, you already have in Me.

Prayer of Confident Trust
Lord Jesus, You are everything to me. I rest in who You are in me today—my Lamb, Lord, Life, Liberator, and Leader. I won’t try to earn what You’ve already given. I won’t strive to become what I already am in You. You are my resting place, and my heart is secure in Your hands. I choose to walk today in quiet confidence, knowing You are expressing Your life through me.
Amen.
