His Coming Will Only Serve

In Christ, every storm only serves to reveal His glory.

Reflections on In Christ by E. Stanley Jones

E. Stanley Jones reveals the deep security believers have in Christ, emphasizing that our invincibility lies in abiding in Him. He draws on the ancient legend of Antaeus, who remained undefeated as long as he stayed in contact with the earth. In the same way, we are strong when we abide in Christ, drawing from His inexhaustible resources. Our security is not the absence of trials, but the transformation of trials through Christ’s love. The enemy may come against us, but his attacks only serve God’s greater purpose. Jesus declared that the ruler of this world had no power over Him, and even the cross—the enemy’s greatest weapon—became the instrument of redemption. Likewise, when we remain in Christ, adversity serves only to reveal His glory in us.

Stephen’s life illustrates this truth. Lies and hatred were hurled at him, but in Christ’s love, they became light. Persecution brought forth love. Even as stones struck his body, his spirit remained unshaken, responding with a prayer of forgiveness. This is the invincibility of abiding in Christ: the attacks of the enemy are not our downfall but the very means by which Christ’s victory is displayed in us.

You are secure in My love. Nothing can touch you unless it first passes through Me. The adversary seeks to destroy, but he has no claim on you, for you are hidden in Christ. His weapons are powerless against My presence within you. What he intends for harm, I turn for good.

You will face trials, but they will not define you. They will serve you. The enemy sent affliction, and I transformed it into endurance. He sent rejection, and I filled you with My unwavering acceptance. He stirred up hatred against you, but I poured My love into your heart. He threw lies at you, but I clothed you in truth. The weapons formed against you crumble in My hands.

You are not standing alone. You are rooted in Me, drawing from My life, My strength, My wisdom. Fear nothing. I have already overcome the world. As you abide in Me, every trial becomes an opportunity for My glory to shine. As Stephen stood before his accusers, My radiance was upon him. As Jesus endured the cross, redemption flowed from His suffering. And as you remain in My love, every opposition, every hardship, every storm will only serve My purpose in you.

Prayer of Confidence

Father, I rest in the truth that I am completely secure in Christ. The enemy has no hold on me, and every challenge I face is an opportunity for Your glory to be revealed. I thank You that nothing can touch me apart from Your sovereign purpose, and whatever comes against me must serve Your will. In Christ, I am invincible—not in my own strength, but in His unshakable life within me. I embrace every moment with the certainty that You are working all things for good. Amen.
