🔥 The Burning Heart
A lantern glowing in the dark woods – a picture of Christ’s life burning within, even in the ordinary.
Based on Oswald Chambers' “My Utmost for His Highest” – March 22
Verse: “Were not our hearts burning within us?” — Luke 24:32
Oswald Chambers invites us to recognize and nurture the holy fire that the Spirit ignites in our hearts. It’s not enough to simply experience those burning moments of clarity and vision—we must learn to stay in experiential union with Christ so that the flame doesn’t fade when routine life returns. Chambers warns that it’s often not sin but ignorance of how we’re made that causes us to lose heart. When the Spirit sparks an emotion aligned with God’s purposes, we should welcome it and let it run its course. If we resist or suppress it, we drift into dullness or even despair. The key to sustaining the burning heart? Abiding in Jesus.
đź•Š Journal Entry in theVoice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture:
My beloved, I have stirred your heart before—when My presence felt near, when you were moved to tears or action, when My love became more real than anything else. That flame was no accident. I lit it. And I desire to keep it burning.
You wonder why the passion fades, why your heart feels dry in the middle of ordinary days. But have you been abiding in Me? Have you remained in the awareness that I am your Life, not just your helper? The fire dies not because you lack desire, but because you try to carry it in your own strength instead of resting in Me, the source of the flame.
Not every emotion is holy. But when I stir you with a desire that aligns with My goodness and truth, don’t resist. Don’t silence it with logic, convenience, or fear. Instead, walk with Me in it. Let it shape your steps, your words, your choices. What begins as holy passion becomes holy action when you trust Me to express My life through you.
The secret of the burning heart is not striving. It is remaining—moment by moment, turning your gaze toward Me, allowing Me to do what only I can do. And as you remain, the fire will not go out. It will spread—quietly, steadily—until it warms not only your soul but those I place around you.
(John 15:4–5, Luke 24:32, Galatians 2:20, Romans 12:11)
🙏 Prayer of Trust:
Father, thank You that I don’t have to beg for the fire to return—it’s already within me because Christ is in me. I trust You to keep the flame burning, not by my effort but by Your Spirit. When You stir my heart, I will not resist. I choose to remain in You, to yield, to let You carry the emotion into action. Even in the ordinary, I know You are near, and I rest in Your ongoing work in me. Keep my heart burning, Lord—not through striving, but through abiding.
