Solomon Lecture Series, Lectures 14 & 15: Personal and ministry lessons from GFI alumni

The following post contains some highlights from the fourteenth and fifteenth lectures in the Solomon Lecture Series, presented by counselors Glen Dean and Gail Davault. The entire lecture series is available, here, at Grace Fellowship International.

In lessons 14 and 15, two Exchanged-Life counselors presented their personal testimonies of their salvation, surrender, and exchanged life journeys.

Glen Dean:

-       Identity influences how we look for acceptance. Glenn’s identity was wrapped up in self-sufficiency and he had to surrender all, including his self-sufficient will to Christ.

-       An exchanged life counselor is an evangelist since the full gospel message is proclaimed, not only salvation but identification in Christ.

-       Be prepared that not everyone is willing to lose their life. Some will think the cost is too high. Some will actually find the suggestion offensive.

Gail Davault:

-       There are Christians who are still trying to earn their salvation because they see God as being reluctant to accept them and so they try to make themselves worthy of His acceptance. They have a distorted view of God. They need to know the accurate view of God.

-       Some people hate God.

-       The message we have for people with feel “abnormal” to them.

-       In practice, a client’s transformation in Christ happens more quickly when the client has a Bible background.

-       Some will find it difficult to trust God in the moment.

-       A common mistake Christian’s make is to try to crucify themselves (Watchman Nee).

-       We must let our clients know that they must trust God for His timing.

-       Gail says that she can summarize a lot of counseling as “helping people learn how to live out of the fix that God has fixed us with.” They need to learn that their identity is fixed, and they need to learn not to live out of their old patterns of the flesh and their old ways of coping with things.
