What Does It Mean to Be Rooted in Christ?

Even when unseen, the anchor holds. So does Christ.

Scripture: Colossians 2:6–7

To be rooted in Christ isn't about performing spiritual activities to prove our growth. It isn't about reading more, praying more, or working harder to show ourselves and others how deeply planted we are. Paul gently reminds us in Colossians 2:6–7 that just as we received Christ—by faith, not by striving—so we are to continue walking in Him. Rootedness is not a future goal; it is a present reality. We have been joined to Christ, and in Him, we are not only secure but continually being built up and established by the Spirit.

If you prefer to reflect by listening, here’s a companion video that gently explores today’s Scripture and journal thought.

The old self, the one that operated independently and tried to hold it all together, has died with Christ. Now, our life is hidden with Him in God. Christ is not merely giving us strength—He is expressing His very life through us. And this life is not seasonal, circumstantial, or dependent on our feelings. It's as steady as a deeply buried ship anchor—invisible yet unmovable. Christ holds us, even when we are unaware.

This is the exchanged life. We no longer strive to produce godliness from our own effort. We rest in Christ, who lives in us and desires to reveal Himself through us. This is what it means to be rooted: to remain in union with the One who is already our life.

Journal Entry: In the Voice of the Holy Spirit

I rooted you in Christ the moment you received Him. You don’t need to strive to stay connected—I have already joined you to Him. You are built upon a foundation that can never be shaken. You are hidden with Christ in Me.

I guide your steps when you walk and I steady your soul when you sit in silence. I do not shift with your emotions. I remain. And I hold you through all seasons—seen and unseen.

You do not need to build a life of faith from scratch. I am building you. Layer by layer, moment by moment. You are not on a journey toward Me; you are growing from Me. Christ in you is more than enough.

So walk—not with pressure, not with fear, not with performance—but with trust. Live from the union that is already yours. You are rooted. You are secure. And your life overflows with thanksgiving.

Prayer: Father, Thank You that I don’t have to root myself in You—You’ve already done that. I trust that Christ is my sure foundation, and that nothing can shake what You’ve placed in Him. I rest in what’s already mine: a union that doesn’t fade, a peace that doesn’t depend on performance, and a life—not improved, but exchanged.

And I trust You, even now, to live through me today as One who is rooted in Christ.

Amen.
