The New and Living Way

Inspired by Day by Day by Grace devotional

"Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us."
Hebrews 10:19-20

Imagine waking up every morning to find a banquet table set for you—overflowing with fresh, nourishing food. It’s not leftovers from yesterday, but a feast prepared anew, abundant and satisfying. This is a picture of the "new and living way" that God has provided through Jesus Christ. Just as we wouldn’t survive on yesterday’s food indefinitely, so too we cannot live on yesterday’s grace. God’s provision for us is fresh, available each day, and tailored for our present need.

Under the old covenant, access to God's intimate presence was severely limited. Only the High Priest could enter the Holy of Holies, and only once a year. This separation underscored the insufficiency of the law to provide lasting fellowship with God. But Jesus Christ, our great High Priest, opened the way for us. Through His shed blood, we are invited to approach the throne of grace with boldness at any moment.

Jeremiah’s lament captures the beauty of this daily provision: “Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23). Every day, we find the Lord’s mercy, compassion, and presence waiting for us—a fresh invitation to enjoy Him.

The Apostle Paul reminds us of this continual newness in Romans 7:6: “But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.” Walking with Christ is never stale; it is a vibrant journey filled with His life and Spirit.

A Life of Fresh Grace

Under grace, we experience an unending supply of life. God has given us full access to Himself through Jesus, so we no longer have to strive for His approval. Instead, we are invited to rest in His presence, drawing from His love and provision moment by moment.

As we embrace this "new and living way," we discover that walking with Christ is not about trying to earn favor or sustain our relationship by our effort. It is about receiving, daily and freshly, from the One who has already accomplished everything on our behalf.

A Prayer of Trust in His Provision

Father,
Thank You for opening the way for us to approach You freely and confidently through Jesus Christ. We rejoice in the newness of Your mercies every morning and the abundance of life You provide. We rest in the truth that You have already given us all we need for today. May we walk in the fresh vitality of Your Spirit, trusting fully in Your faithfulness. Amen.

Final Thought

The new and living way offered by Christ is like stepping into an eternal spring—never stagnant, always flowing. Each day brings fresh mercies, a deeper experience of His grace, and an ever-deepening intimacy with Him. Let us draw near, savoring this daily feast that never runs out.
