The Mystery of Our Religion: He
Jesus emphasized His own centrality in Scripture: "You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to me." (John 5:39) The Scriptures were never meant to be an end in themselves; they point to the One in whom eternal life resides. Jesus continued, "Yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life" (John 5:40). The true purpose of the Scriptures is not simply to provide information but to guide us to the Living Word, who is Christ Himself.
The revelation of God is not just found in written words but in the face of Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. Each time we engage with the Scriptures, we are not merely reading ink on a page—we are being led into fellowship with the living Christ. The words are a doorway into communion with the One to whom they bear witness.
The book of Revelation begins with, "The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him" (Revelation 1:1). Throughout the Scriptures, Jesus reveals God, showing us in human terms what the Father is like. He said, "He who has seen me has seen the Father." But here, in Revelation, the roles are reversed—God is revealing Jesus. This is the great mystery of our faith: in Jesus' surrender, in His giving of His life, He was revealing the Father, and now the Father is glorifying the Son.
This is the beauty of our life in Christ—we are not merely students of a book but those who have been drawn into the living revelation of God in Christ. Every day is an opportunity to behold Him anew, to see His life breaking forth in the smallest moments, the ordinary and extraordinary alike. Just as the sunrise does not need to announce its arrival but simply shines, so Christ is ever-present, revealing Himself to those with eyes to see.
Practical Reflection
Approach the Scriptures as an invitation to encounter Christ, not merely to gain knowledge.
Look for Christ in every moment, knowing that He is ever revealing Himself.
Rest in the truth that in seeing Jesus, we see the fullness of God.
Prayer of Trust
Father, You have revealed Yourself fully in Christ, and we rejoice in the life we have in Him. Every moment, every passage of Scripture, every work of Your hand points us to the Son. We walk in the confidence that we lack nothing, for You have given us all things in Christ. Our hearts are satisfied in knowing Him, and we delight in the unsearchable riches of Your grace. May our eyes remain fixed on the One who is the perfect revelation of who You are. Amen.
Final Thought
To see Jesus is to see what God and life are like.
