Resting and Trusting in His Steady Hand

"Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when men prosper in their ways, when they carry out wicked schemes." — Psalm 37:7 BSB
In the old creation, labor came first, followed by rest. But in Christ, we begin with rest and move into labor from that place of abiding. This is the pattern of the resurrection life—ceasing from our own striving and walking in the work He accomplishes through us.
Resting in Him is not passivity; it is surrender to His working. Consider a skilled musician playing a violin. The bow glides effortlessly across the strings, producing a melody that fills the air. But that effortlessness is not without intention—there is a firm and steady hand guiding the bow, applying just the right pressure to bring forth harmony. If the musician wavers or releases control, the music falters.
Likewise, the believer abides in the rest of Christ, steadfast in trust, allowing His life to move through them unhindered. We do not grasp anxiously at control, nor do we drift aimlessly. Instead, we hold fast to Him in faith, knowing that He keeps us, sustains us, and directs our steps in perfect peace.
The world may rage, and injustice may seem to prosper, but we do not fret. Our anchor is Christ, and our labor is not one of restless striving, but of yielded faith. We enter His rest, and from that place of stillness, He moves in power.
Prayer of Trust
Father, You have called us into the rest of Christ, and in that rest, You work mightily through us. We trust You completely, knowing that our labor is not in vain when it is Your life at work within us. We hold fast to You, steadfast in faith, unmoved by the turbulence around us. Thank You for keeping us in perfect peace as we set our hearts upon You. Amen.
