Reflecting God’s Presence to Others

Inspired by insights from A.B. Simpson

"He will speak to the people for you. He will be your spokesman, and it will be as if you were God to him."
Exodus 4:16 (BSB)

When God called Moses to lead His people, He appointed Aaron as his spokesman. Yet, God entrusted Moses with an extraordinary role: to stand before Aaron and the people as God’s representative. What a weighty and beautiful calling—to reflect God’s presence to others.

This same calling rests on us today. In our words, actions, and attitudes, we have the opportunity to mirror the heart of God to those around us. This isn’t about perfection or having all the answers, but about living in such close fellowship with Christ that His love naturally flows through us.

The Mirror and the Light

Imagine standing in a dark room, holding a mirror. On its own, the mirror offers no light. But when positioned toward a bright lamp, it reflects that light, illuminating the space around it.

We are like that mirror. Left to ourselves, we have no light to give. But when we turn our hearts toward Christ—the true Light—we reflect His love, grace, and truth to a world longing for hope. The more we face Him, the more brightly His presence shines through us.

Living as His Reflection

  • Consistency in Character: God is unchanging, dependable, and faithful. When we are consistent in love, truth, and grace, others begin to see a glimpse of His unwavering character through us.

  • Generosity of Spirit: God is always giving, overflowing with love and mercy. We reflect Him when we live generously—not just with resources but with patience, kindness, and compassion.

  • Selfless Love: Just as Christ laid down His life for us, we are called to live in self-forgetfulness, seeking the good of others before ourselves. This sacrificial love stands out in a world driven by self-interest.

A Prayer for Reflecting Christ

Father,
Thank You for entrusting us with the calling to reflect Your love and presence to those around us. Draw our hearts so close to You that our words, actions, and attitudes mirror Your grace and truth. Let us live with integrity and compassion, giving generously and loving selflessly. May our lives be like mirrors, turned toward You, shining Your light into every dark and weary place. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Final Thought

We may never stand before crowds as Moses did, but every conversation, every act of kindness, and every moment of grace is an opportunity to reflect God’s heart. Let’s live today mindful of this calling—to be mirrors of His love and light in a world that desperately needs Him.
