The Stone Is Rolled Away: Living in Resurrection Victory
Insights inspired by the Grace and Truth Study Bible
"He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay."
— Matthew 28:6
The dawn of that first Resurrection Sunday began with sorrow and uncertainty for the women who loved Jesus. Yet, as they approached the tomb, they encountered something far beyond their expectations—a violent earthquake, an angel clothed in dazzling light, and an empty tomb. Their mourning was suddenly interrupted by the greatest announcement in history: "He is not here, for He has risen."
The angel’s rolled-away stone wasn’t to let Jesus out but to let the world in—to witness that death could not hold the Son of God. Jesus had already conquered the grave, fulfilling every word He had spoken. The empty tomb was a public declaration that sin and death had been defeated, and nothing would ever be the same.
The Door Is Open
Imagine standing before a massive stone door, sealed and impossible to move. This stone represents sin, fear, and death—barriers humanity could never overcome. Yet, by His resurrection, Jesus rolled that stone away forever. The door is wide open, inviting us to step into the freedom and victory He has already secured.
Just as the angel invited the women to "Come and see", Jesus invites us daily to step into this victory. The stone is no longer in the way. We are free to live in the reality of His risen life.
No More Fear, Only Worship
When Jesus met the women on the road, their fear turned into worship. His presence calmed their hearts and turned their mission from one of grief to one of joyful proclamation. Likewise, Jesus meets us in our own moments of fear and doubt. He reminds us that we no longer need to live under the weight of anxiety, guilt, or fear of the future.
His resurrection is our assurance that every promise God has made is trustworthy. We are not striving for victory—we are living from it.
A Prayer of Praise and Rest
Father,
We praise You for the victory You have given us through the resurrection of Jesus. The stone has been rolled away, and we are no longer bound by sin, fear, or death. Thank You for inviting us into the freedom and life that Jesus secured. We rest in the truth that nothing can separate us from Your love. Fill our hearts with worship and joy, just as You did for the women at the tomb. We trust You completely and walk in the victory of Christ, today and always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Final Thought
The resurrection isn’t just a past event—it’s our present reality. Jesus has opened the way, and the stone that once stood in our path has been rolled away. Let us live with hearts full of worship and joy, resting in the victory that has already been won.
"Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
— 1 Corinthians 15:57
