Living in the Fullness of God's Grace
Have you ever paused to consider just how much God has already given you in Christ? I mean, really stopped to reflect on it? Sometimes, I think we approach God as if we’re still empty-handed, as though we need to beg Him for blessings or plead for His help. But Scripture paints a very different picture—one of a loving Father who has already lavished every spiritual blessing on us through His Son, Jesus Christ.
In today’s reflection, drawn from Day by Day by Grace, we’re reminded of the astounding truth found in Romans 8:32:
"He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?"
This verse is an anchor for our faith. If God has already given us the greatest treasure—His beloved Son—why would He withhold anything else we need for life and godliness?
The Comprehensive Plan of Grace
God’s plan for us is one of giving. Grace is His nature, and giving is its expression. In His grace, God doesn’t just meet our needs; He abundantly provides for every aspect of our spiritual journey.
Consider these truths from Scripture:
He has already given us everything for life and godliness:
"His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness" (2 Peter 1:3).
Everything necessary for living a life that pleases Him, and for growing in godly character, has already been given to us in Christ. We don’t need to strive or bargain for it—we simply need to appropriate it by faith.God’s gifts are revealed through knowing Him more deeply:
As we grow in our relationship with Him, the fullness of what He’s provided becomes clearer. "Through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue" (2 Peter 1:3b). The more we know Christ, the more we experience the richness of His grace. His ultimate gift—Jesus—is the guarantee of everything else we need:
"He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?" (Romans 8:32). If God didn’t withhold His beloved Son, there’s no lesser gift He’ll withhold. This is the essence of grace: unmerited, abundant giving.
What Does This Mean for Us?
If God has already provided for all our spiritual needs, how does this shape our walk with Him? Here are some ways to apply this truth to our daily lives:
Stop asking for what is already yours in Christ.
We don’t need to ask God to “give us strength” or “help us be patient.” Instead, we acknowledge that His strength and patience are already ours through His Spirit. Our prayer becomes one of faith, thanking Him for what He has already provided and asking Him to live it out in and through us.Trust Him for everything, big or small.
If God didn’t withhold His own Son, why would He hold back anything else we need? Whether it’s wisdom for a decision, courage in a trial, or provision for a need, we can rest assured that He will give us what is best.Appropriate His gifts through faith, not striving.
We don’t earn God’s blessings through effort; we receive them by faith. As we trust Him, His life flows through us, enabling us to live in the fullness of His grace.
Living Out the Exchanged Life
This truth fits beautifully within the lens of the exchanged life. Our old life in Adam, marked by self-reliance, striving, and fear, is gone. In its place, we have received a new life in Christ—a life lived not by our effort but by His sufficiency.
As we yield to Christ in us, His life flows through ours. Instead of trying harder, we trust deeper. Instead of asking for what He has already given, we thank Him for it and step out in faith. This isn’t passivity—it’s active dependence on the One who works in us and through us for His glory.
A Loving Father Who Freely Gives
Let’s not miss the heart of this message: our Father’s giving nature is rooted in His love. As today’s devotional reminds us, “If He did not hold back His most prized treasure (His own beloved Son), there is no way that the Father will hold back any lesser gift from us.”
God’s giving isn’t stingy or reluctant; it’s lavish and generous. When we understand this, we can stop living as spiritual beggars and start living as beloved children, confident in our Father’s provision.
A Prayer of Gratitude
Lord, thank You for Your abundant grace. Thank You for giving us Your beloved Son and, with Him, everything we need for life and godliness. May we walk in the fullness of what You’ve already provided, trusting in Your sufficiency and resting in Your love. We trust You as we live each moment by faith, yielding to Your Spirit and reflecting Your grace to the world around us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
