Living as Christ’s Ambassadors

A.B. Simpson’s devotional for December 31 draws attention to the high calling placed upon every believer. As followers of Christ, we are not merely here to exist; we are sent with purpose, representing the King of Kings in a world that desperately needs to see His light. Simpson compares our role to that of ambassadors, entrusted with a divine message for a foreign land. This poignant image reminds us that while we live in this world, our true home is with the Lord.

Representing Christ to the World

In John 17:15, Jesus prays for His followers, not that they would be removed from the world, but that they would be kept from the evil one. This verse highlights two truths:

  1. We Are Sent with a Mission: Just as Jesus was sent by the Father, we are sent into the world (John 17:18). Our task is to carry the message of reconciliation: “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20).

  2. We Are Guarded by God: While we navigate the challenges of this life, God’s protecting hand is upon us. We are not left to face the spiritual battles alone. The Lord equips and empowers us to stand firm.

Living Out Our Ambassadorship

Being an ambassador for Christ involves more than words; it is reflected in how we live. Our daily lives should point others to the Savior:

  • In Our Priorities: Do we live with eternal values in mind, or are we distracted by temporary pursuits?

  • In Our Interactions: Are we gracious, kind, and patient, reflecting the love of Christ?

  • In Our Work: Even in mundane tasks, we can glorify God by working with integrity and excellence (Colossians 3:23-24).

Simpson’s imagery of “carrying music in our hearts” captures this beautifully. A life lived in tune with heaven’s melody will naturally draw others toward the Lord.

A Prayer of Dedication

Lord, thank You for the privilege of representing You in this world. Empower me to live as Your faithful ambassador, sharing Your message through my words and actions. May my life reflect Your grace, love, and truth, drawing others to know You. Guard me from the evil one, and help me to carry the heavenly song in my heart as I go about my daily tasks. I surrender myself to Your purpose and glory. Amen.

A Final Thought

As the year comes to a close, let us renew our commitment to live as ambassadors for Christ. This world is not our home, but while we are here, we have a high calling: to represent our Savior in everything we do. Whether through a kind word, a simple act of service, or the steadfastness of our faith, may our lives point to the One who has sent us and who will one day bring us home. Let us step into the new year with purpose, representing Christ faithfully in every area of our lives.
