It Is the Lord: A Life That Satisfies Him
*Inspired by Oswald Chambers’ My Utmost for His Highest
"Thomas answered and said to Him, 'My Lord and my God!'"
— John 20:28
In the busyness of life and ministry, it’s easy to fall into the trap of doing for Jesus rather than simply being with Him. Oswald Chambers points out that the greatest competitor to devotion to Christ isn’t sin or distraction—it’s often our service for Him. We can mistakenly believe that our value comes from what we accomplish in His name rather than from a heart fully surrendered to Him.
Jesus didn’t call us to merely complete tasks but to satisfy His heart with our undivided devotion. He desires our presence more than our performance. He longs for hearts that overflow with love and loyalty, not just hands busy with service.
Imagine a lamp designed to give off light. Its purpose isn’t fulfilled by polishing its exterior or rearranging its place in the room but by being connected to the power source so it can shine. In the same way, we were created not to endlessly strive in service but to remain connected to Christ, allowing His life to flow through us. Only then do we truly satisfy Him.
Our devotion must be deeper than duty—it must be rooted in delight. He calls us not to battle for Him but to yield to Him, trusting that He will accomplish His purposes through us.
A Prayer of Trust and Devotion
Father,
You have already given us everything we need in Christ. Today, I rest in the truth that my highest calling is to satisfy You with my devotion, not my performance. You are my Lord and my God, and I trust You to work in and through me as I remain close to You. Let my life reflect unwavering loyalty and love, bringing joy to Your heart. I rejoice in Your sufficiency and walk in the freedom of complete surrender. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Final Thought
May we not mistake service for surrender. Let us live as lamps fully connected to the Source, shining brightly not by effort, but by the overflow of Christ’s life within us. In this, we bring joy to His heart and fulfill our true purpose.
