Go Directly to Jesus
“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 8:38-39
The simplicity of the gospel is often obscured by human additions. Even within Christianity, people have created layers between themselves and God—systems, rituals, religious structures, and intermediaries meant to help them approach Him. But in Christ, God has already come to us. We are not working our way up to Him; He has fully reached down to us.
E. Stanley Jones points out how Gnosticism and other philosophies created a chain of intermediaries between God and man, requiring people to pass through angels, spiritual authorities, or rituals before accessing divine love. Even today, many unknowingly place something between themselves and God—whether religious practices, personal efforts, or human mediators. But Scripture sweeps these barriers aside: “There is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus” (1 Tim. 2:5). There is no hierarchy, no waiting line, no spiritual bureaucracy. Jesus Himself is the Door, the Way, and the Life.
Imagine an orphaned child longing for their father’s embrace. Some well-meaning people might try to stand in the way, insisting the child must first prove their worth, recite the right words, or approach through the proper channels. But the father, seeing his child, simply opens his arms and says, "Come." This is how God welcomes us in Christ—immediately, fully, and without obstruction.
There is no need to feel distant, no need to work through layers of religious formalities. The love of God is not locked behind intermediaries; it is fully revealed in Christ. When we remain in Him, we remain in the embrace of the Father, secure and unshaken by anything in heaven or on earth.
Reflection
Are there any religious or personal efforts you’ve relied on to feel closer to God?
How does knowing that Jesus is the direct way to the Father bring freedom to your walk with Him?
What would change in your daily life if you fully embraced the reality that nothing separates you from God in Christ?
Prayer
Father, thank You that in Christ, You have come to us completely. We stand in Your love, unshaken by anything in heaven or on earth. You have torn down every barrier, and we rest in the confidence that nothing can separate us from You. Jesus, You are the Way, and we rejoice in the direct access we have to You. Amen.
