Fully Free in Christ
No Partial Victory—Total Freedom in Christ
So many live as though Christ has only partially freed them, as if they must battle sin with their own strength, hoping for some distant day of true deliverance. But the Word of God declares something far greater: “The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death” (Rom. 8:2). This is not a future hope or a half-measure—it is a present and completed reality for all who are in Christ.
E. Stanley Jones, in In Christ, highlights the unfortunate tendency of some to dilute the power of this truth. Commentators hesitate, trying to soften Paul’s words, suggesting that freedom from sin’s power is only partial, something to be fully realized later. But Scripture does not speak in hesitant terms. The Spirit of life has set us free. The disease of sin is not merely managed—it has been dealt with at its root. Christ did not come to suppress symptoms but to cure the condition entirely.
Picture a prisoner who has been fully pardoned, yet continues to live within the prison walls, acting as if the doors remain locked. The shackles are gone, but he still clings to them, convinced they hold power. This is the tragedy of misunderstanding our freedom in Christ. Many, though fully released, still live as if bound.
Christ’s work is not a half-measure. He has done what no commentary, no theological hedging, no self-effort could accomplish—He has set us free. The law of sin and death no longer governs us. Our freedom is not partial, nor is it merely positional—it is real, present, and accessible as we walk by faith in the life of Christ within us.
Prayer of Confidence
Father, we rejoice in the absolute freedom You have given us in Christ. We stand in the truth that the law of the Spirit of life has already set us free. There is no condemnation, no lingering chains—only the life of Christ expressing itself through us. Thank You for making this real in our experience as we trust in Your indwelling presence. We rest in Your finished work, walking today in the fullness of the freedom You have secured for us.
Amen.
