Fulfilled Law – Grace Has the Final Word

“Christ fulfilled every requirement—there are no chains left to bind us.”

This morning’s entry from Abide Above invites us to behold a liberating truth: the law, though holy and just and good, has no dominion over those who are in Christ Jesus—not because it has been dismissed, but because it has been fulfilled. Every requirement of the law, every curse for disobedience, every righteous decree—it has all been answered in Christ.

C.I. Scofield clarifies the error of trying to mix law and grace. To say we are both under law and grace is to fall into the Galatian heresy. Instead, Scripture teaches that in Christ, we are dead to the law so that we might live unto God (Galatians 2:19). That’s not lawlessness; that’s true holiness—Christ living His life through us by grace.

A.J. Gordon powerfully expresses that our union with Christ in His death means the law’s claims have been fully answered. The law said “you must die” and we have—crucified with Christ. The law said, “Cursed is everyone who disobeys” and we were—Christ became a curse for us. The law was never nullified; it was satisfied. Therefore, we do not submit ourselves to decrees as though we still live under outward rules (Colossians 2:20); we now walk by the indwelling Spirit, guided not by external commands but by internal union.

You are no longer under law, but under grace. The law was never your enemy, but it was never your Savior either. It demanded much, and in your old self you could never meet its standards. But now, you are in Me—and I in you—and every righteous requirement has already been met in Christ.

I bore your curse so you could walk in blessing. I fulfilled the decrees so you could live in delight. I am not asking you to maintain righteousness through effort—I have given you My righteousness as your identity, your standing, and your joy. The law pointed to Me, and now that I have come, you no longer need to revisit the shadow.

Why return to regulations and fear, when you are filled with Me—your Guide, your Comforter, your Life? I lead you not by tablets of stone but by writing My desires upon your heart. I do not shame you into obedience; I walk with you in love that overflows into godliness. You died to the old way. Now live in Me, and I will manifest all that pleases the Father through you.

Let your mind be renewed to this freedom: I am not calling you to a balanced blend of grace and law, but to a full immersion in grace—because grace is not a doctrine. Grace is Me, indwelling you. And I will never fail.

Prayer of Trust

Father, I rest in the beauty of Your completed work. You didn’t remove the law by ignoring it—you fulfilled it in Christ, and now it holds no claim over me. Thank You that I am not under its weight, but under Your wings. The accusations have fallen silent, the record has been nailed to the cross, and I walk today not in self-effort but in the sufficiency of Christ in me. I rejoice in this freedom. I trust Your Spirit to express through me a life that is pleasing to You—not by striving, but by abiding.
