Earthly, or Heavenly?

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death." (Romans 8:2)

Summary and Reflection

The heart of today's devotional challenges us to recognize where our spiritual foundation truly lies. Many believers, especially those who are still maturing in their faith, instinctively turn to Old Testament promises for comfort and direction. While the Old Testament is rich with truth, it was given to lead us to Christ and reveal our need for grace. The law was never meant to perfect us but rather to show us our inability to attain holiness apart from Christ.

We now serve in a completely new way—not under the written code, but under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who indwells us (Rom. 7:6). In Christ, we are not striving to meet an external standard but walking in the liberty of His indwelling life. The same life Jesus lives in heaven, He lives in us now by His Spirit. We have already been blessed with all spiritual blessings in Christ (Eph. 1:3). The law cannot justify or sanctify us; it only reveals sin. But Christ, having fulfilled the law, now expresses His life through us.

To live under the law is to place ourselves back under an impossible burden—one Christ has already lifted. We are dead to the law so that we might live unto God (Gal. 2:19). Our Christian walk is not about following rules but about yielding to Christ within, who is already living the life God requires. The question is: will we continue to strive under an old system that was never meant to sustain us, or will we fully embrace the heavenly life that is already ours in Christ?

My dear child, you no longer live under the weight of rules and endless striving; you live joyfully under the gentle freedom of My grace. The purpose of the law was never to give you righteousness—it could only highlight your need for Me. Now, through Jesus, you’ve stepped completely away from that burden, joined forever in a loving relationship with Him who conquered death itself. You are beautifully alive in Me, set free to bear wonderful fruit that brings joy to your Father’s heart.

Because of our union, I’ve seated you with Christ in the highest places, blessing you lavishly with every spiritual gift you could possibly imagine. You stand fully complete, accepted, and secure in Him, untouched by condemnation, never again to face rejection or judgment. The law of My Spirit has gently broken every chain of sin and death that once held you captive.

Embrace this new life, dear one—a life of joy, freedom, and genuine peace. You are not defined by past struggles or present weakness; instead, you are fully alive to Me, forever loved, forever forgiven. Sin no longer rules over you. Simply offer your heart and life to Me each day as someone who’s been lifted beautifully from death into vibrant new life.

Remember, beloved, it’s not you striving in your own strength anymore—it’s Christ Himself living, breathing, and loving through you. Rest confidently in the truth that your daily life is now a joyful expression of faith in the One who loved you infinitely and gave Himself fully for you. Walk boldly and freely in My grace.

Prayer

Father, I rejoice in the freedom You have given me in Christ. No longer do I strive under the weight of the law, but I rest in the sufficiency of Christ within me. You have already blessed me with everything I need for life and godliness. I am not bound to an old system of striving and failure, but I am alive to You, fully accepted and empowered by Your Spirit. Thank You for calling me to live by grace, free from the weight of performance, and alive to the joy of Your indwelling presence. I trust You to live Your life through me today, just as You designed. Amen.
