Everything to Us Is a Blessing- Part 1
Sometimes blessings come disguised—like sunlight breaking through storm clouds, revealing that God was working all along.
In today’s devotional, Witness Lee draws from the life of Joseph to remind us that everything—yes, everything—that happens to us in this life is ultimately a blessing. Joseph’s story, which includes betrayal, slavery, and unjust imprisonment, culminates in his declaration to his brothers that what they meant for evil, God meant for good (Gen. 50:20). This wasn’t spiritual spin or denial—it was the reality Joseph lived from.
The heart of this message is not just about Joseph’s resilience but about God's sovereignty and goodness. Lee boldly states that all things in the universe—people, events, even time and space—are blessings to the believer. This is not rooted in circumstances, but in identity. Joseph’s blessing was unconditional because it was rooted in who he was before God, not in how things appeared. The takeaway: because we belong to Christ, we are blessed—eternally, unconditionally, and unfailingly—even when we don't fully grasp how.
Journal Entry – In the Voice of the Holy Spirit
You are mine, and because you are mine, you live beneath the constant flow of My blessing. I do not measure out your portion based on behavior or deserving. I blessed Joseph not because he earned favor through trials, but because I was with him. And I am with you.
When others misunderstand you or wrong you, I weave their words and actions into threads of glory. Just as I brought Joseph through prison into the palace, so I am bringing beauty out of the pressure you cannot yet see redeemed. What others may intend for harm, I convert into healing. Even pain becomes the soil for joy, and delay becomes the staging ground for purpose.
You don’t need to decipher what is “good” or “bad” by appearance. Trust that I am working all things together for good because you are called, because you are Mine, because My Son lives in you. The universe is not random—it’s reoriented around My will in you. The heavens above and the earth beneath, the breath in your lungs and the neighbors on your street, every conversation, every interruption—these are wrapped in My intention to bless.
I have already given you every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. You do not need to earn what is already yours. Like Joseph, you will look back and see: nothing was wasted. Everything was transformed. I am your All-Sufficient One. Your cup overflows.
(Genesis 45:5; 50:20; Romans 8:28; Ephesians 1:3)
A Real-Life Example to Illustrate the Message
I once knew a woman who lost her job unexpectedly. She had been praying for direction in her life, but losing her job felt like a harsh answer. Initially, she thought she was being punished or sidelined. But within a few months, the “free time” gave her the opportunity to care for a sick parent, and through that, she reconnected with her faith. That same season led her to a new line of work that aligned perfectly with her passions. Looking back, she said, “It was the worst thing that ever happened to me—until it became the best.” It wasn't the pain that blessed her, but the presence of God working through it.
That’s what this devotional is pressing into: the call to stop labeling events as “good” or “bad” from a fleshly standpoint. Instead, we're invited to trust that, in Christ, everything is already being used for our good—no exceptions.
Prayer of Trust
Father, I don’t pretend to understand how every thread is woven into Your tapestry of blessing, but I trust the One who holds the thread. Thank You that I no longer need to sort life into categories of good and bad. In Christ, everything is transformed. Thank You that I am not a victim of circumstance but a recipient of blessing—constant, unshakable, divine blessing. Whether in seasons of favor or seasons of frustration, You remain my sufficiency, and I remain secure in You. My soul rests in the knowledge that You are always working, always present, and always for me.
