Enriched with Grace by Christ

Grace doesn’t trickle in—it overflows through Christ, enriching every part of life.

This devotional reminds us that the Christian life is not a striving toward spiritual riches—it is a life already enriched, because Christ Himself lives within us. Paul’s letters to the Corinthians declare a truth too often overlooked: God's grace is not a distant favor we hope for; it is the present reality of being spiritually resourced through an abiding relationship with Jesus.

Paul said the believers in Corinth were "enriched in everything by Him"—meaning that by simply being united with Christ, they were already filled with spiritual abundance. Knowledge, speech, faith, diligence, and love were not achievements, but gifts that flowed from grace.

Bob Hoekstra directs our gaze not toward how hard we’ve tried to attain these traits, but toward Christ Himself, who is their Source. Grace is not a concept—it is a Person. When we relate to Christ with humble dependence, His grace fills us. And just as Paul prayed in Philippians, the fruit of righteousness is not our doing but “by Jesus Christ”—to the glory of God.

This kind of richness isn’t rare. It’s normal for those who live by grace. It’s what we’ve been given, not because we earned it, but because we’re in Him.

Personalized Journal Entry in the Holy Spirit’s Voice Through Scripture

You are not lacking in anything, because I have already given you everything you need for life and godliness through your knowledge of Me. You were once impoverished in spirit, but now you are rich beyond measure because you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for you wisdom from God—your righteousness, your sanctification, and your redemption.

When you trust Me, your faith is not your own; it is Mine, working within you. When you speak words of life and truth, it is My Spirit giving you utterance. When you grow in knowledge, it is because I am guiding you into all truth. Even your diligence in serving, your endurance in trials, and your love for others flow from My grace active in your heart.

You abide in Me, and I in you, and through this union My grace abounds. There is no striving here—only receiving, yielding, and walking. Every fruit of righteousness that appears in your life is the evidence of My indwelling. Do not look to yourself for proof of progress; look to Christ in you, for He is the source of every good thing.

Stay close. Stay available. You don’t need to try harder to be enriched—I have already made you full.

Prayer

Father, I rejoice in the grace that You’ve poured into me through Christ. I don’t need to strive to become rich in faith or love or understanding—it is already mine in Him. I trust that as I yield, Your grace flows freely, shaping every word, every decision, every affection. May I never doubt Your generosity or forget that in Christ, I live in abundance. Thank You that I can live each moment drawing from the fullness of Jesus, who dwells in me.
