Endurance: Resting in His Strength, Not Striving in Ours

"being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have full endurance and patience, and joyfully." — Colossians 1:11 (BSB)

Endurance can look different depending on where our strength is found. There is the kind that grits its teeth, striving with every ounce of human willpower, and then there is the kind that is quietly at rest, upheld by something greater than itself. One wearies the soul, the other lifts it.

A great mountain stands unmoved in the face of storms, not because it resists with effort, but because its foundation is unshaken. Likewise, our endurance is not a matter of straining to hold on but of resting in the One who holds us. The trials of this life are not burdens meant to be carried alone but opportunities to experience the sustaining power of Christ within.

Patience, endurance, and even joy are not achievements to reach for—they are expressions of the life of Christ in us. In yielding to Him, we discover that perseverance is not about clenching our fists but about opening our hands in trust.

Prayer

Father, we rejoice in Your sufficiency. In every challenge, You have already provided endurance, patience, and joy through the life of Christ in us. We rest in the reality that we are upheld by Your glorious power, not our own striving. Thank You for every moment that draws us deeper into this truth. Our confidence is in You. Amen.

Final Thought
The opportunity to trust God in trials will not always be before us. One day, faith will give way to sight, and endurance will no longer be needed. Until then, let us embrace each challenge as a chance to experience His life within, standing firm—not in strain, but in rest.
