“Come Up Here”: The Growth of Grace in Personal Character
“When God calls us higher, it’s not to a tightrope—but to a spacious plateau of grace.”
Oswald Chambers gently lifts our gaze upward today with Revelation 4:1—“Come up here, and I will show you.” He reminds us that spiritual vision doesn't come from emotion but from a personal life rooted in character—Christ’s character worked out in us. It’s not about striving to see more, but yielding to the One who reveals more as we trust and walk in what He’s already shown us.
Each time God calls us higher, temptations come—temptations dressed up as noble pursuits or spiritual ambition. Satan promises elevation too, but it’s a counterfeit, leading to paralyzing pressure, not peace. His version of holiness is a performance act. But God's elevation, by grace, brings us into wide open spaces—a spiritual plateau of rest and freedom, where our movement is not restricted but joyful and secure.
Chambers also encourages us to trace the arc of our spiritual history. Are we seeing more clearly than we did a year ago? That’s grace maturing. That’s Christ being formed in us. Insight and revelation are given not as badges of honor, but as gifts flowing from a life that has grown in character—not self-improvement, but the yielded life. And when we receive truth from Him, we’re to walk in it immediately, letting it shape our real, daily choices.
The Lord desires to reveal more of His heart to us, but He waits until the soil is ready. Just as Abraham was only told of Sodom and Gomorrah after his heart was prepared, we too receive spiritual insight when we are ready—not by effort, but by grace forming character. It’s not about earning more from God. It’s about living in what He’s already made ours in Christ.
Personalized Journal Entry – The Holy Spirit’s Voice Through Scripture
I have raised you and seated you with Christ in the heavenly places so you may know the immeasurable riches of My grace in kindness toward you. I have drawn you near by the blood of Christ, and through Him, you have access to Me in one Spirit. You are no longer far off—you belong in My household, built upon the foundation of truth, with Christ Jesus as your cornerstone.
I call you upward not to perform, but to rest. When I say “Come up here,” it is not an invitation to strain—it is My delight to reveal what I’ve already prepared for you. I give you insight not as a reward for perfection, but as a grace given to one I’ve made new. I withhold certain things only until the moment your heart is ready to carry them—not because you must become worthy, but because I am growing you into the likeness of My Son.
Temptation will sometimes come disguised as ambition—urging you to climb by your own effort. But that is not My voice. My voice brings peace, not pressure. It leads to liberty, not paralysis. I call you to the spacious place of rest where you walk freely, knowing that every new truth I reveal is yours to live out, not figure out.
You are being transformed, from one degree of glory to another, by My Spirit. I began this good work in you, and I will complete it. So receive what I show you today. Don’t store it away—live it. Don’t fear it—trust Me with it. You are Mine, and I am revealing more of Myself as you walk with Me.

Prayer
Father, I thank You for calling me higher—not as a taskmaster demanding performance, but as a loving Father drawing me into deeper rest. I rejoice that You’ve already made me ready in Christ to receive what You want to show me. I trust You to reveal more as You see fit, knowing I lack nothing in Him. Thank You for giving me a place of peace and movement in Your presence—not a tightrope, but a wide field of grace. I walk forward today with confidence—not in my growth, but in Yours in me.
