He Is Not Safe, But He Is Good
“He is not safe, but He is good. He is the King, I tell you.”

John 16:14 — “He will glorify Me, for He will take what is Mine and declare it to you.”
There’s a moment in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe that has stayed with me since I first encountered it. Lucy, unsure about meeting Aslan, the great lion who represents Christ, asks if he’s safe. Mr. Beaver responds with something that echoes eternity: “Safe? Who said anything about safe? 'Course he isn't safe. But he's good. He's the King, I tell you.”
That one sentence captures today’s reflection from In Christ better than a dozen theological explanations. Jesus is not “safe” in the way we often prefer—tidy, predictable, explainable. He isn’t tame. We can’t wrap Him up in doctrinal packaging and set Him on the shelf. He’s the Living Word, and He won’t sit still for our theological labels or spiritual systems.
E. Stanley Jones warns against mistaking our interpretations of Christ for Christ Himself. The Incarnation is once for all—Jesus came in the flesh, God with us. But that doesn’t mean we’ve exhausted the depths of who He is. We never will. That’s not a flaw—it’s the beauty. The Spirit takes what is His and declares it to us, little by little, moment by moment.
The danger lies in thinking we’ve got Jesus figured out. When we reduce Him to “safe,” we lose sight of His glory. We begin to worship a theological concept instead of the living, risen King. But when we let Him be who He is—unpredictable, untamable, yet always good—we enter into wonder. And from that place, the Spirit can lead us deeper into truth. Not new truth, but ever-fresh revelation of the One who already dwells within us.
Personalized Journal Entry — In the Holy Spirit’s Voice Through Scripture
I am not a tame lion. I will not be managed, summarized, or placed into the confines of human understanding. I have come to dwell with you, not to be dissected, but to be adored. I have given you My Spirit, who takes what is Mine and unfolds it to your heart—not in safe, static lessons, but in living revelation.
You have not come to a fire that can be controlled. You have come to the blazing presence of the Holy One. I am your King, not your mascot. I am good—always, entirely good—but I will not bend to human expectation.
You walk with the One who formed the stars and knows each thought before it leaves your tongue. Yet I have made Myself known to you—not as a puzzle to solve, but as a Person to love. You will never reach the bottom of My love or scale the heights of My glory. But you are invited, every day, to go deeper.
In Me are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I am the same yesterday, today, and forever—yet your heart will never run out of new reasons to praise Me. I am the Word who became flesh, and now My life is yours.
You don’t need to make sense of everything. Just walk with Me. Let My Spirit lead you into all truth, one step at a time. Fix your eyes on Me—the Author and Finisher of your faith—and I will continue to surprise you with grace.

Prayer
Jesus, I rejoice that You are not tame. You’re not a predictable doctrine or a theological statement. You are living, active, full of holy mystery—and yet I know You. Not because I figured You out, but because You gave Yourself to me.
I trust the Spirit within me to continue revealing Your heart—not by facts alone, but by the beauty of Your presence. You are not safe, but You are good. You are the King, I tell You—and I worship You with awe and wonder today.
Amen.
