Can You Come Down?

Even when the mountain fades from view, the light we received there remains within.

Scripture: John 12:36 – “Believe in the light while you have the light.”

Chambers speaks to those of us who’ve known the sweetness of a spiritual high—a moment when God’s presence felt so close, so real, so alive, we thought, If only it could stay like this forever. But the purpose of those moments is not to linger in them. They are glimpses, revelations, flashes of divine clarity meant to shape how we live in the more ordinary valleys below.

He warns us not to chase mountaintop experiences for their own sake. The danger lies in letting inspiration stall into inaction. The spiritual life isn’t about basking in feelings but about taking the vision from the heights and letting it reshape how we live in the gray of our everyday lives.

When God prompts something in prayer—do it. Don’t wait to feel inspired again. Don’t long to ascend once more before obeying. The Spirit-led life is not a series of mountaintop moments—it’s a constant response to what was revealed in those moments. Burn the bridge behind you. Move forward in the light you were given, even if the landscape ahead looks plain. Stand, decide, act—and don’t look back.

Journal Entry — In the Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture

You were given the mountaintop not as a tent to camp in but a torch to carry. The vision I revealed to you was meant for the valley, for the field, for the street corner, for the gray, unremarkable days. Let not your heart grow weary when the scenery shifts. What I whispered to you in the light, carry with you into the shadow.

You were never meant to live by feelings but by faith. Your sufficiency is not in emotional highs but in Me. I am the One who began this good work in you, and I will bring it to completion. It is I who work in you both to will and to act in accordance with My good pleasure. Your part is to yield, to step forward, to obey what I already placed within you.

Let your yes be yes. Let your steps reflect the commitment you made in My presence. Burn the bridge that led to complacency. Shake the dust of hesitation from your feet. You are not of those who shrink back. You are Mine, bought with blood, sealed with My presence. Walk worthy of your calling—not by striving, but by living in the light I have already given you.

Even now, I am in you. Even now, I live through you. Even now, I shine in your ordinary day. Don’t look for another mountaintop. Look for Me right here.

(Philippians 1:6; Philippians 2:13; Matthew 5:37; Hebrews 10:39; 1 Corinthians 6:20; Ephesians 4:1)

Prayer — In My Voice

Father, I know what it is to feel Your nearness on the mountain, but I thank You that Your presence is just as real here, in the ordinary. I no longer chase the high moments—I carry what You’ve shown me into the life I now live, trusting that You are living it through me. You’ve given me all I need in Christ. Today, I respond—not to a feeling, but to a Person. I walk forward, not to earn Your approval, but because I already have it. I trust You to express Your life through me, even in the mundane. And I rejoice—because You’re not only the God of the mountain, but the God of every moment in between.
