Boasting in Weakness: The Strength of Christ in Me
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9
Paul flips the boasting of his opponents upside down. They flaunt their triumphs, their spiritual experiences, and their strength, but Paul boasts in his sufferings and weaknesses. He recounts a remarkable vision of paradise but refuses to exalt himself over it. Instead, he shares how God humbled him through a "thorn in the flesh," a torment that kept him from pride. He pleaded three times for the Lord to remove it, but God’s response was not to remove the affliction but to give Paul more of Himself.
Christ’s answer—"My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness"—radically changed Paul’s perspective. Instead of lamenting his trials, he began to boast in them. His suffering was not a sign of God’s absence but of His power resting upon him. Weakness was not a hindrance to ministry but a platform for the strength of Christ to be displayed.
Paul then addresses the Corinthians’ struggle with his suffering. They admired power and signs but despised weakness. He reminds them that the miracles performed among them were not his own doing but Christ’s. Furthermore, he reassures them that his heart was not set on their wealth but on them as people, like a father providing for his children. His goal was never to build himself up but to build them up in truth and love. Yet, he fears that when he visits them, he will find them entangled in sin, having misunderstood the heart of the gospel. The power of Christ is not displayed in self-sufficiency, but in surrender, humility, and dependence upon Him.
Personalized Journal Entry: The Spirit’s Voice Through Scripture
My grace is sufficient for you. You are looking for ease, but I am giving you endurance. You ask for deliverance, but I am offering something better—My very presence, My strength resting upon you. Do you see? Your weakness is not your loss; it is the avenue through which My power flows.
You pray for the thorn to be removed, but I have already given you all you need. I have poured My life into you, and My grace meets you in every place of pain. When you are weak, you are not abandoned; you are carried. When you reach the end of yourself, you find Me. My power is made perfect—not in your striving, not in your performance, but in your resting.
Rejoice, then, in your weakness, for it is there that I am revealed. When trials press in, do not shrink back as if you are defeated. My grace will meet you there, not as a temporary relief but as a sustaining force. My strength is your strength, My life your life, My joy your joy.
Do not measure My love by the ease of your circumstances. My love is measured by the cross, by the power of resurrection, by My Spirit dwelling in you. You belong to Me, and I will not leave you wanting. Boast in your weakness, for in it, I am seen.

Prayer of Confidence
Father, I rest in the sufficiency of Your grace. I thank You that You are not a distant helper but the very life within me. I embrace my weakness as the place where Your power is displayed. The trials before me are not barriers but opportunities to experience more of You. I will not shrink back; I will press forward in the confidence that You are more than enough for me.
Thank You that I do not have to ask for what You have already given. Your grace is abundant, Your presence unwavering, and Your strength made perfect in my weakness. I boast—not in myself, but in You. You are my sufficiency. You are my life.
Amen.
