Living in the Garden of Grace: Ambassadors for Christ
📖 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. — 2 Corinthians 5:20
When we were made new in Christ, we were not merely improved versions of our old selves. We became something entirely different—new creations, transformed and commissioned to represent Christ on this earth. Among the "new things" that define our life in Him is our role as ambassadors.
An ambassador does not operate under their own authority. They do not bring personal opinions, nor do they invent their own message. Instead, they faithfully represent the One who sent them. In the same way, we are sent as representatives of Christ, bearing His message of reconciliation to a world in need. This is not a responsibility carried in human strength but a natural outflow of the new life within us.
The text makes it clear: God Himself is pleading through us. We do not stand alone in this role. It is not our own eloquence or persuasion that brings people to Christ, but God working through His ambassadors. Just as an envoy speaks only what their king has decreed, we simply present the truth—“Be reconciled to God.” The power lies in the One we represent, not in our own abilities.
Imagine a herald delivering a royal decree. His confidence is not in his own authority, but in the one who sent him. He does not worry about making the message more compelling or adding his own spin. He simply proclaims what has already been declared. Likewise, we rest in the truth that it is God who pleads through us. Our task is not to make the message effective—it already is. Our task is to speak as those who are sent.
Living as His Representatives
Recognize that your role as an ambassador is not based on effort but identity—you represent Christ because He has made you new.
Trust that it is God Himself who speaks through you. You are not left to persuade or convince; you simply bear the message.
Live in the confidence that the Gospel is God’s message, not ours to refine or alter. It is powerful as it is.
Prayer of Trust
Father, we rejoice in the privilege of representing You. Thank You for entrusting us with the message of reconciliation, knowing that it is not our words, but Your Spirit in us that draws people to Yourself. We walk forward in confidence, resting in the truth that You are the One pleading through us. May our lives reflect Your heart, and may those we encounter see You in us. Amen.
