In All These Things: The Security of Being in Christ

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? … No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Romans 8:35, 37)

We live in a world that is constantly shifting—circumstances change, people fail, and emotions rise and fall. But our life in Christ is not like that. It does not waver with passing feelings or depend on external stability. As E. Stanley Jones points out, being in Christ is as dependable as the law of gravity—only greater, for it is rooted in the very nature and character of God Himself.

Christianity stands apart from all other belief systems in one small but powerful word: "in." The victory of Christ is not found by escaping suffering or rising above difficulties, but in all these things. We do not overcome trials by avoiding them or seeking refuge in detachment, but by remaining in Christ through them. He does not merely pull us out of the storm—He carries us through it.

Think of a mountain climber. The strength of their ascent is not found in their ability to avoid difficult terrain but in the security of their anchor. If they are securely fastened, no storm, no slip, no moment of weakness will send them plunging to destruction. In the same way, our security is not in our own grip on Christ, but in His unbreakable hold on us. Nothing—nothing—can sever that bond.

We do not fear what life may bring, because we are already more than conquerors through Him who loves us. Whether facing hardship, loss, or even death itself, we stand victorious—not because of our resilience, but because of His life in us. The sum total of reality is behind us, the Creator Himself is our foundation, and nothing in all creation can separate us from His love.

Prayer of Confidence in Christ

Father, we rejoice in the unshakable truth that our life is hidden in Christ, secure in Your love. No trial, no suffering, no force in heaven or earth can break the bond we have with You. We do not need to escape life’s struggles to find victory, for You have made us conquerors in all these things. Thank You that our security does not rest in ourselves, but in Your unchanging faithfulness. We stand firm, anchored in Christ, knowing that nothing can separate us from Your love. Amen.
